Henry Vermont: Instructor
You should have done the A015 Bible and Missions before enrolling in this course. Ideally, you should also have done A020 Missions 101 course, as it will give you a good foundation for this course.
Welcome to the course “Roles in Missions”.
As you will remember from the course “The Bible and Missions”, Jesus commanded us in Matthew 28:19-20 to make disciples of all nations. We also saw that this task can be finished. Remember Jesus’ prophecy in Matt 24:14? He said this: “And this Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all the world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come”.
To finish this task Jesus gave us, missionaries need to go to all nations, especially to the ones where Christ is not known yet — the Unreached People Groups. They also need people in supporting roles enabling them to go.
Finishing the Great Commission is a huge task! It can be quite overwhelming when we realise how much still needs to be done, and how many challenges we still face. And I’m sure you’ll realise that becoming involved will come at personal cost. But what bigger honour could there be than to obey Jesus and follow His example to the best of our ability?
We believe that God will speak to you during this course, and help you find your role in helping to complete the task that Jesus gave us. This course is not only about “how to become a missionary”. Rather, it shows you that there are many ways you can contribute to help finish the task, and that not everyone needs to be come a pastor or missionary. We will also look at the concept of ‘calling’, and share some ideas for steps you can take to contribute to God’s plan to reach the world.
Therefore, work through the course prayerfully. Take time to reflect about what you learn, and be responsive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Are you ready to get start with the course right now? If so, select the “Course” link in the Course navigation tab at the top of this page, and get ready for your journey in discovering your role in frontier missions.
You should have done the A015 Bible and Missions before enrolling in this course.
We also highly recommend that you also do the A020 Discipling the Nations course first, which will give you a good foundation for this course.
The course is self-paced, and you can go through the content at your own pace when you choose to do so. There is only one module. There you will find videos, discussion opportunities, and other activities.
There are short multiple choice quizzes after most videos. These are intended to help you process and understand the material, not to serve as “tests” or exams.
In order to get a certificate for the course, you have to complete the final assessment at the end of the course. This assessment consists of a multiple-choice quiz.
Please note that most of the video transcripts have been machine-translated and will contain language errors. We are actively looking for volunteers to translations. If you are interested in volunteering, please click here
Please take a moment to introduce yourself to other learners using the course’s Discussion Forum.
Again, thank you so much for joining us in this course. We hope you will enjoy it, and hear God’s voice as you progress.
Grace and peace,
Henry Vermont M.Com M.Th
